RUN DAWG Mobile Dog Gym RUN DAWG Mobile Dog Gym  is a Las Vegas dog running treadmill exercise service that comes directly to you – the dog owner. Run Dawg’s vans are fully equipped to provide a safe and climate-controlled environment. It’s a new and fun way to walk or run your dog safely and securely, without the problems of dog parks or hot weather. A mobile dog gym is a great option for exercising your dog if you live in a hot climate (and for various other reasons). It can be a safe alternative in particular if you have one of the TEN dog breeds that struggle with heat, as explained in the following article

So, what is a ‘slat mill’? Here is an explanation from RUN DAWG’S website:

‘A dog running treadmill is called a “slat mill,” and it is not powered by a motor of any kind. It is made up of “slats” which are attached to a free-spinning belt, making a cushioned but solid surface for your dog to walk or run. The dog is harnessed to the equipment so they cannot fall off, and is encouraged to move forward using toys or positive motivation like clapping and cheering. There is no limit to how fast your dog can run, and many dogs will experience full-speed running that lasts for more than a few seconds, for the first time.

Most dogs work out once a week, or possibly twice if they are not running full speed. Your dog will be less reactive and destructive as well as happier. They will live longer and be healthier over the course of their life.’

WHAT IS A MOBILE DOG GYM? (rundawg.com)

So how does a dog learn to ‘work out’ in a mobile dog gym? Initially, the dog is introduced to the new environment and learns that the slat mill is nothing to be scared of. The dog needs to gain confidence in using the slat mill, by understanding that it will not fall off and will not get hurt. The dog is encouraged with toys, whistling and any positive method that makes the process fun for the dog. Within a couple of sessions, most dogs begin to walk at a steady pace and are encouraged to gain confidence. The dog is supervised the whole time, its personality and physical condition is carefully monitored and it is not pushed past its limits. The dog is free to stop at any point and is given an opportunity to have a rest and to have small amounts of water. A dog that likes to chase is given the opportunity to do so (for example with the use of squeaky toys) once it builds up confidence and stamina. Sprint sessions are done for short periods, followed by walking, so that the dog cools down. These sprint sessions are reserved for dogs that have built up enough stamina. Close supervision and monitoring of the dog ensures a safe, fun and effective workout - an activity that the dog will be excited to do again.

Ray, the owner of RUN DAWG GYM first contacted us at Digger Dog Nail File, because his clients would often ask about nail trimming solutions. Of course, we wanted to help and sent a Digger Dog Nail File to Ray, so that he could trial it with one of his dogs, ‘Lucy’ the Pug.

Ray rescued Lucy, after he found her living on the streets, starving and expecting puppies. Thanks to Ray, Lucy and her 'babies' are now living the good life with him and his family.

Lucy learned to use her Digger Dog Nail File very quickly. Without any stress to her or Ray, Lucy now files down her more problematic front nails, while digging for her favorite treats. She is a real cutie and perfectly demonstrates how the Digger Dog Nail File works.

So why are the front nails more problematic? Because dogs tend to ‘push off’ from their back legs - kind of like a ‘rear wheel drive’ 😁. This means that as a general rule, the nails on the back paws tend to wear down more than the nails on front paws.
Interestingly, Donna Hill, a dog trainer from Nanaimo, BC Canada, explained that dogs tend to be more aware of their front paws. With the back paws, they don't see them and so they don't know what's going on if you try to clip the nails. This means that they tolerate traditional nail trimming tools (such as dog nail clippers) on the back nails more easily than they do on the front ones. The Digger Dog Nail File was designed specifically for the more-problematic nails on front paws. This unique dog nail scratch board / dog nail file is an Australian Invention and is proudly Made in Melbourne, Australia. It was invented because my beautiful Doberman ‘Zana’ wouldn’t allow me to clip her nails! As they say, ‘necessity is the mother of all invention’!
